Kristen Bury, the mother of the 9-week-old baby who was murdered in Florida last October, was found dead in her jail cell in an apparent suicide Saturday.
The 33-year-old Florida woman was convicted in January on a plea deal in the death of son Chance Walsh and convicted to 25 years in prison.
Sarasota Jail deputies found Bury unresponsive in her cell around 1 a.m. Saturday and tried to resucitate her, according to the Orlando Sentinel. She was pronounced dead at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
Lt. Joe Giasone said that the initial investigation ruled Bury’s death a suicide but that the Medical Examiner’s Office was still investigating.

Baby Chance was reported missing in September 2015 when his grandmother told Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office that she hadn’t seen him in almost a month.
His parents, Bury and Joseph Walsh, first told relatives that they had given away the baby at a Georgia hotel, then said he had died in a car crash in South Carolina. They later changed their story and claimed the baby was fine.
Authorities found blood on a bed and in a bathroom in the family’s apartment in North Port, then discovered the diaper-clad body in a makeshift grave along with blue surgical gloves worn by his father.
Walsh was indicted on first-degree murder charges in March and is set to stand trial in June.
Bury had pleaded no contest to aggravated manslaughter of a child by culpable negligence. Part of her plea agreement was that she would have to testify against Walsh in court.
